Canceling Out The Noise Of Negativity

We’ve all done it. We scroll through Facebook or IG and we look at all the happy posts from other people and we get depressed because our life doesn’t look like theirs. Or we accept a friend request because we think we should or because we don’t want to be rude. Or we continuously see the same people posting “poor me” posts ALL. THE. TIME.

All of these things negatively impact our mental health. They may also impact our self-esteem, our self-image, our productiveness, and a host of other things as well.

Seeing negative posts day after day after day on your news-feed brings negative energy into your life. It slowly erodes your peace and creates chaos in your mind and heart.

Negative attitudes and feelings of helplessness and hopelessness can create chronic stress, which upsets the body’s hormone balance, depletes the brain chemicals required for happiness, and damages the immune system. Even just a little bit of negativity has been shown to increase our chances for illness, heart attack, and stroke.

Chronic stress can actually decrease our lifespan. (Science has now identified that stress shortens our telomeres, the “end caps” of our DNA strands, which causes us to age more quickly.)

Poorly managed or repressed anger (hostility) is also related to a slew of health conditions, such as hypertension (high blood pressure), cardiovascular disease, digestive disorders, and infection.

I don’t know about you, but those side effects of negativity are not appealing to me. So what can you do about the negativity in your life?? Well there are quite a few things you can do, actually!!

Go through your social media news feed and remove every person that came to mind as you were reading the description at the top of the page. I know that at least a few people came to mind!

If you don’t want to remove a friend or a page, then snooze them for 30 days. At the end of that time, check in honestly with yourself and see if you’ve missed interacting with them. If not, then remove them.

And then go a step further. You’ve got the negativity off of your timelines, but what about in your day to day life? I know that sometimes that’s hard. Sometimes it’s a family member, or a coworker, or a boss, a partner or even an adult child.

Put yourself first and take control of your life. YOU are in control of the happiness and negativity in your life. YOU are in control over who stays and who goes. YOU are in control over what you will accept or not accept in your life.

So remove those people off social media. Delete their numbers from your phone. Stop hanging around the Negative Nancy’s and the Eeyore’s and all the other negative people in your life. It’s all fun and games saying that your “haters are fans in disguise” until you land yourself in the hospital for entertaining their nonsense.

Once you remove the negativity and negative vibes from your life, you will be amazed at all of the amazing changes that start happening to life, seemingly on their own!

You will be calmer, you will be happier, more productive, more successful, more focused, healthier, less stressed, etc etc etc. That sounds like the kind of life I want to live, what about you???

If you put these practices into action in your life, feel free to come back and share the results in the comments below! I’d love to know how it’s impacted your life!
